When the world slowed down during the pandemic, Dontaye Carter and his daughter, Kyleigh, discovered something that would change their lives forever: the simple power of reading together.
What began as bedtime stories and everyday conversations grew into My Daddy and Me —a children's book celebrating the love, presence, and impact of engaged fathers while inspiring a lifelong love of reading.
Dontaye is an award-winning communications strategist, community leader, and founder of The My Daddy and Me Literacy Project, a nationwide initiative dedicated to strengthening literacy, empowering families, and bringing books into classrooms and communities across America.
Kyleigh became one of the youngest published co-authors when My Daddy and Me was released on Father's Day 2023.
Today, she proudly visits schools, reads to her classmates, and reminds children everywhere that reading opens the door to confidence, opportunity, and imagination.
Together, they believe literacy is more than learning words on a page—it is one of the greatest pathways to freedom, opportunity, and generational change.
